The Tilicho Tal (Lake) lies in the Annapurna range of the
Central Nepal Himalaya. It is the highest Lake in the world
(5200m). Stretching about 2.5mi / 4km long and about 0.6mi / 1km
wide, it lies at the base of the Tilicho pick (7,134m). This
tarns-Himalayan adventure begins from Beshi Shar which takes
about 6 hours drive from Kathmandu and trail goes through the
Marsyangdi River/valley to Manang district. Manang is the
district of behind the mountain. We soon leave the lodges on the
main trail to head up toward Tilicho Lake. These high Himalayan
reaches are the habitat of the Gurung and Manage People and as
well as Himalayan Tahr (Mountain goat/blues heap) and the snow
leopard, among other mammals. The trial turn left from the mail
trial of Throng Pass from Manang. After two and half hours, we
will reach in other village called Khangsar, the last village of
Nepal.
From here we climb up to Tilicho Base Camp through the oldest
Gompa of Manang called “Tare Ghompa”, it takes about 4-5 hours
to reach Base Camp. Next day trail goes to Tilicho Lake and to
Mesokanto La (5,300m) where we are rewarded with the first views
of the Kali Gandaki valley. We descend to stay at the charming
Thakali village of Marpha. Here on we follow the Kali Gandaki
upstream to Kagbeni, and up a side valley to the shrine at
Muktinath, sacred to Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims alike. The trip
ends in Jomsom with an early morning flight to Pokhara. This is
a splendid summer trek, as rewarding as it is challenging. The
Tilicho lake trek is among the finest serious Nepal treks best
experienced in the Monsoon |
