shrines and chaityas of these three historical cities stand as

Kathmandu Valley Tour

known as Kantipur, derived from
Kasthamandap, a rest house built
from the wood of a single tree.
King Yaksha Malla divided the
valley into four parts –
Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Patan and
Kirtipur and presented them to
his four children, three sons
and one daughter respectively.

Bhaktapur
Bhaktapur, the “Ancient city of
Asia” was previously known as “Bhatgaon”.
“Bhat” means rice and “gaon”
means village. Since the
occupation of the natives were
agriculture and rice was
cultivated in a large percentage
the place was so called as
Bhatgaon. These days Bhatgaon
has been replaced by Bhaktapur
which literally means the “city
of devotees”. “Bhakta” means
