Beginning in Pokhara, this trek encircles Dhaulagiri Himal,
which comprises of Dhaulagiri I – IV all over 7,000m and offers
simple lifestyle and scenery of Nepal from cultivated fields to
mountain villages scattered along Myagdi Khola. The trail starts
from Beni after an hour long drive from Pokhara and heads along
the banks of Myagdi river passing through interesting villages
of Babichor (950m), Darbang (1,180m) and Sibang (1,750m).
Entering the Myagdi river that penetrates deep into Dhaulagiri
Himal offers the grand view of west wall of Dhaulagiri I
(8,167m) and moving further in, awesome view of its north wall
and Dhaulagiri II (7,751m), Dhaulagiri III (7,715m) and
Dhaulagiri V (7,618m). A winding trail trekking on snow around
the Chhonbarden glacier leads to French Pass (5360m) and the
Thapa pass (5,250m) with Hidden valley (4,900m) in between
offering panoramic views of Mukut Himal, Hongde (6,550m), Tongu
Peak (6,187m), Tukuche Peak (6,920m), Nilgiri (6,940m), Thorong
Peak (6,440m) and the Annapurna I & II. The weather condition
could play a definitive role in determining the successful
completion through the arduous long saddle between French pass
and Thapa pass. The descending trail passes through the village
of Yak Kharka and Marpha, where vegetation changes from alpine
to subtropical and finally to Jomsom for a flight to Pokhara. |
